CREW Boston

An Afternoon of Service at Carolina Hill Shelter

On August 4, 2017, a group of CREW Boston members traveled to Marshfield for an afternoon of service at the Carolina Hill Shelter, a transitional shelter aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness for families in need.  The event was planned by the Community Involvement Committee, and project coordinator and CIC member Bonny Doorakian worked with the shelter to obtain painting supplies and perennials for planting, with the help of generous donations from East Boston Savings Bank and Lowe’s.  With these supplies and an afternoon of hard work, volunteers Despina Hixon, Chrissy Vincenti, Pat Cooper, Anne Sodergren, Jessica Park, and Gayle Simmons, along with Bonny, were able to make a big impact at the shelter, sprucing up the grounds with newly-planted flowers and brightening the living room with a new coat of paint.

Afterward, the group was able to unwind at nearby Mia Regazza, where they enjoyed drinks, great food, and networking while raising a glass to the day’s work.

Carolina Hill staff were very appreciative and pleased with the work, which is sure to make a difference for the families that live there.  Special thanks to Bonny Doorakian for her hard work in coordinating the project, and Lowe’s and East Boston Savings Bank for their generous support, as well as our volunteers. This was a true team effort, and the service project was a great success!
