CREW Boston

Spring Painting Service Day to Support Elizabeth Stone House

On May 26, 2016, eight CREW Boston members volunteered for an afternoon of community service at the Elizabeth Stone House (ESH) in Roxbury.  Caroline Barone, Janet Bernardo, Michelle Callahan, Rachel Eng, Nancy McCafferty, Pam Messenger, Jessica Park, and Amanda Roe made a big difference for the residents and staff of the ESH, which helps homeless and at-risk individuals and families rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence, mental illness, substance abuse and other forms of trauma.

The volunteer team painted the kitchen and large community room, used for group meetings for the residents and board meetings, in one of the apartments at ESH.  The walls of the room were originally a dark blue and the fresh beige paint really brightened up the space!   A big thank you goes out to CREW Boston member Abby Roberts, who coordinated the event with ESH and secured paint donations for the service day!

Volunteers and other CREW members also collected items to be donated to the ESH, including bath towels, kitchen towels, kitchen supplies, home goods, and more.  These items were arranged into "welcome baskets" for new ESH residents, who often arrive there with nothing. Thank you to those who donated!

After painting, the group headed to Centre Street Cafe in Jamaica Plain for wine, delicious food, and networking while celebrating a successful day of work.  The ESH staff was very appreciative of the volunteer team's work and CREW Boston's donations, which are sure to make a big impact.
