On Tuesday, December 9th, CREW Boston’s Design & Development and Meds & Eds Groups co-hosted members for a Hard Hat Tour of BioMed’s 585 Kendall in Cambridge. Right in the heart of Kendall Square, this innovative development brings together nature, art, community, and life sciences, creating a dynamic hub for work, culture, and public engagement. The tour highlighted the building’s public spaces, including a winter garden, retail areas, and lounges, as well as Takeda’s new global headquarters, which features 500,000 sf of lab and office spaces. Members also explored Global Art Live’s 45,000 sf performing arts center, which will include a 400-seat theater to be operated by the Cambridge-based nonprofit Global Arts Live. Attendees were guided by leaders from the AEC team and got an inside look at this active construction site.
A heartfelt thanks to Patricia Sakata of CBT Architects for organizing and leading the tour, with assistance from Diane Piersall and Sara Capobianco of Suffolk Construction, and to the entire 585 AEC team: Sanborn Head, Building Envelope Technologies, Ferguson Neudorf Glass, BR+A, Heintges, and Buro Happold (several of whom are CREW members) for bringing this amazing project to life!
