On Wednesday, June 10, CREW Boston members gathered at MITIMCo in Kendall Square for
Beyond the Building: Activating Public Space in Life Science Developments, an engaging discussion on the evolving role of public space within life science and mixed-use innovation districts.
Moderated by Gillian Dahill of John Moriarty & Associates, the panel featured Nicole LaBossiere of DivcoWest, Mary Lydecker of Hargreaves Jones, Hannah Mullen of BioMed Realty, and Carolyn Desmond of Skanska Development. Panelists shared insights on how public spaces are planned, designed, activated, and managed to enhance tenant experience, foster community engagement, and create a strong sense of place within life science developments.
Drawing on projects throughout Kendall Square, Cambridge Crossing, and the greater Boston market, the discussion explored how thoughtful public realm strategies can support long-term district identity while helping life science campuses connect more meaningfully with their surrounding neighborhoods. Following the program, members continued the conversation during a networking reception with fellow industry professionals.
