st, CREW Boston’s Housing and Community Development Committee hosted an engaging, members-only virtual presentation focused on the growing opportunity to convert faith-based properties into affordable housing. The discussion highlighted Allston Brighton CDC’s redevelopment of The Hill Memorial Baptist Church and explored the broader policy landscape shaping similar projects across Massachusetts.
Speakers Caitlin Robillard, Director of Real Estate Development at Allston Brighton CDC, John Woods, Executive Director at Allston Brighton CDC, Katie Everett, Director at The Lynch Foundation, and Cindy Rowe, President & CEO at the Jewish Alliance for Law & Social Action (JALSA) shared insights on both the practical challenges and the promising potential of these conversions. The conversation also covered current “Yes In God’s Backyard” legislation aimed at supporting faith-based organizations in repurposing their properties for community benefit.
The session was moderated by CREW Boston member Lynne D. Sweet, Principal of LDS Consulting Group, LLC, and offered members a comprehensive look at development considerations, community engagement, and the policy reforms needed to advance this important work.
