On Friday, October 17
th, CREW Boston’s Sustainability Group hosted a virtual panel discussion exploring the realities of ethical sourcing within the built environment. The conversation introduced the principles behind the Design for Freedom movement and examined why supply chain transparency and responsible material sourcing are critical issues for today’s construction and design professionals.
Featuring panelists Monica Wentz of Turner Construction Company, Sarah George of Atelier Ten, Gioia Montana Connell of WSP, and Barbra BatShalom of BuildingEase, the discussion brought together diverse perspectives from across the value chain—including construction, architecture, consulting, and technology.
Panelists shared insights on the challenges of addressing modern slavery, the importance of persistence and collaboration in achieving ethical supply chains, and actionable steps firms can take to align projects with human rights and sustainability goals.
