Over 50 CREW Boston members attended the 2016 CREW Network Convention & Marketplace held in New York City in October. The Convention was a tremendous success and the largest CREW Network gathering to date, with nearly 1,500 in attendance.

Attendees of the Networking, Wine and CREW Boston enjoyed a fun evening of conversation and wine in October. Members and guests had the opportunity to hear about the organization’s amazing committees while sampling 8 great wines and hors d’oeuvres! The room was filled with great energy and excitement as members, guests and committee volunteers mingled and networked. This was a great way for those new to the organization to learn about how to get more involved. Thanks to all the committee volunteers and our host, DLA Piper, for making this an enjoyable evening.

Just weeks after Millennium Tower welcomed its first residents, Kathy MacNeil and Halle Auerbach of Millennium Partners gave members a private tour and special networking event. After the tour, the networking continued at the Millennium Tower Sales Office with cocktails and light hors d’oeuvres.

CREW Boston and the New England Chapter of the Counselors of Real Estate (CRE) gathered at the newly opened rooftop gardens and Conference Center at 53 State Street for a discussion on Multi-Family Housing. Moderated by Don Bouchard with Lincoln Property Company, panelist discussed the state of supply, demand, construction costs and the forecast for the multi-family market in Greater Boston. Panelists included Tom O’Brien, Founding Partner and Managing Director of HYM Investment Group and a former Director of the Boston Redevelopment Authority, Leslie Cohen, Principal, Chief Operating Officer of Samuel & Associates and Lauren O'Neil, Director of HFF.

CREW Boston’s September luncheon featured Doug Poutasse of Bentall Kennedy, a Harvard-trained economic analyst and forecaster who shared his insights on mega trends in capital markets, the real estate industry and the overall economy. Overall, Poutasse said that the U.S. economy is poised for continued growth, with 2.5 million jobs created within the last year. However, consumers remain cautious and have decreased spending despite an increase in wages. Demographically, immigrants, baby boomers and millennials are key transformative forces in terms of labor markets, housing markets and consumption. The election does raise the risk of market uncertainty or policy changes but so far, the future looks bright.

If you did not attend the CREW Boston Goes Gatsby Reception on July 28th, you missed a great event. Held at a newly opened high tech Sales Center for Pierce Boston in Fenway, the attendees had a chance to hear about one of Samuels & Associates latest (and tallest) projects, the Pierce Boston Tower and its effect on the Fenway neighborhood. Judy Nitsch shared details about the upcoming CREW Convention in New York City, and Gayle Bourdeau spoke about the CREW Network Foundation’s “A Little Party Never Hurt Nobody” evening event to benefit CREW Network Foundation that is scheduled for the Thursday night during the Convention. Following up on June’s CREW Boston Annual Meeting, and as motivation to FINALLY read one of these amazing women's books, the Entrepreneur Exchange Group held a discussion of luncheon speaker Carla Harris' 2014 publication, Strategize to Win. While we didn’t all manage to read the whole book in time, Carla’s words at the annual meeting certainly gave us plenty to talk about. Discussion of how Carla’s Pearls and strategies translate to entrepreneurs and small business owners was extremely insightful. We look forward to getting into some of these topics in future meetings.

CREW Boston members joined forces with Events19 to host nine-holes of golf, followed by some lively networking, at Ipswich Country Club on Tuesday, July 19th. The weather was spectacular as players of all levels enjoyed an afternoon of golf on this outstanding Robert Trent Jones designed course. Through our various golf outings we hope to encourage members to start utilizing golf as another means of networking with colleagues and clients. And for those members who are still learning the game – to participate and become comfortable and confident in their skills.
