CREW Boston

Tour of Elizabeth Stone House

On December 15th about 12 CREW Boston members toured the Elizabeth Stone House’s (ESH) current location at 8 Notre Dame Street in Roxbury.  The Community Involvement Committee (CIC) organized this site visit given the Stone House is its chosen charity for the 2015/2016 year.  The tour was of the current ESH location where they have their cramped offices, common area library and living room, and childcare space along with 11 residential apartments (these are a mix of 3 and 4 bedrooms which house many different sized families which leads to the occasionally coupling up of 2 families in an apartment).  These cramped conditions, largely due to the loss of ESH’s satellite building to fire a few years ago, are to soon be improved when the Stone House completes its new home on Washington Street, just outside of Egleston Square in Jamaica Plain (see rendering below).  CIC and CREW at-large members were impressed to learn of the large number of folks served in just 2015 alone; 672 individuals – 394 adults and 278 children – received either housing, therapeutic childcare and related services, support group and counseling, and/or money-management skills and financial literacy education.

After the informative tour, CREW Boston members visited Doyle’s Café in JP for dinner and lively networking, which included a mini fashion show of one of the patron’s unique and colorful Santa outfit.
