th, CREW Boston’s Rising Leaders Group hosted their first annual Cocktails & Conversations with this year’s recipient of the CREW Boston Leadership Award, Tamie Thompson!
Hosted at the offices of JLL, this event was formatted as an open conversation, moderated by Rising Leaders co-chairs Maddie Carens, Ashley Maggiacomo, Patty Pytlik, and Catherine Sobchuk. The intention of this formatting was to create engagement between attendees and Tamie, as well as to create a space to ask, listen, and learn.
Tamie's impressive 40+ year career as a trailblazer for women in commercial real estate is rich with stories we all can learn from, and this event facilitated an excellent space for shared advice, perspective, and discussion. Tamie led an open and engaging conversation where she offered insightful advice, tools, and perspective for having a fulfilling, well-balanced career and personal life.
Some key take-aways included:
- Time is your most precious currency.
- Thoughtfully spend your time - both personally and professionally and be intentional with the things you prioritize. It is better to do a few things well than to be spread too thin.
- The tempo you give to conversations matter.
- Slowing down to really listen (even if you can only give someone five minutes) changes how the person you are engaging with feels. You will always remember the people who take the time to listen to you!
- What makes you different is what makes you strong.
- If you don't seem to fit in a certain environment ,you can adapt by playing to your differences instead of conforming. For instance, you might better remember the person that took you to a cooking class when everyone else went golfing.
