On Wednesday, July 16
th, CREW Boston’s Housing & Community Development Committee hosted members for a tour of affordable senior housing at the Brighton campus of 2Life Communities, beginning at the J.J. Carroll House.
During the tour, attendees heard from Zoe Weinrobe and Lisa Kozol about the vibrant sense of community 2Life thrives to create. They saw firsthand how the intentional design of common spaces encourages residents to step out of their units to create art, garden, stay active, and build meaningful connections. One CREW member even shared a personal testimonial about how 2Life fosters a true sense of belonging for seniors—something she’s experienced through her own mother, who lives there (and yes, we had a chance to meet her mom).
Attendees also had the opportunity to understand how 2Life financed the project, leased up J.J. Carroll in record time, and provides ongoing programs and services for residents from the moment they arrive. With a 10-year waitlist, the demand for more affordable, high-quality senior housing is clear!
After the tour, members headed to Cityside Tavern to enjoy refreshing drinks and light hors d’oeuvres – a perfect way to cap off a hot summer day!
