The Climate Ready Boston project has been recognized this year with the American Planning Association’s top honor for resilience planning—the 2019 National APA Achievement Award for Resilience, Gold Winner. Jill Allen Dixon and Laura Marett from Sasaki will discuss planning for resilience in Boston, including highlights of Sasaki’s work as a part of the citywide Climate Ready Boston consultant team.   Their presentation will visualize climate threats and strategies for social and environmental resilience, drawing from research associated with other projects including Sea Change: Boston and the Naturally Resilient Communities Partnership.

Jill Allen Dixon, AICP
Associate Principal, Sasaki
Jill is an urban planner at Sasaki with a focus on resilient communities, parks, and open spaces. Spanning a range of scales, her work around the country includes parks, greenways, and park system plans; climate adaptation and resilience; and downtown and regional planning. Many of her projects lie at the intersection of planning, landscape architecture, and natural systems—bridging environmental with economic and social resilience.

Here in Boston, as part of the citywide Climate Ready Boston consultant team, Jill focused on social resiliency and communicating climate risks.  The project was recognized this year with the American Planning Association’s top honor for resilience planning—the 2019 National APA Achievement Award for Resilience, Gold Winner.  Beyond Boston, Jill’s work has spanned from resilient parks in coastal Rhode Island, Alabama, and Florida; to economic resiliency in Northeast Ohio and Detroit; to developing national tools for promoting nature-based solutions to flooding through the Naturally Resilient Communities Partnership.

Common to her work is a focus on bringing together diverse constituents to identify shared visions for places and open spaces.  Jill also enjoys identifying ways to make climate change science and risks more accessible for the general public through graphics and visualizations.

Jill holds a Master in Urban Planning from Harvard's Graduate School of Design and dual degrees in architecture and economics from Clemson University.
