On Tuesday, June 28
th, CREW Boston members enjoyed a narrated boat tour of the Lower Mystic River by guide Julie Wormser, Senior Policy Advisor of Mystic River Watershed Association and co-founder of the Resilient Mystic Collaborative, a voluntary partnership among 20 cities and towns to work together to protect people and places from extreme weather.
The Lower Mystic River (Spaulding Rehab Hospital to Assembly Row) is going through historic redevelopment, from private developers, major land sales (Exxon Mobil is selling nearly 100 acres in Everett), and climate resilience investments. This river front will likely see billions in new investment over the next 10-20 years, triggered by the Harbor cleanup, the casino, and the end of the Seaport redevelopment. Harbor clean-up has changed our appreciation of water-front property, transforming it from urban wasteland with no trees and buildings with no windows to a vital urban amenity. We learned of positive impact of the Infrastructure and Jobs Investment Act, sparking many projects that have been in the planning stages for twenty years or more.
It was a beautiful night for a tour and a great time was had by all. Thanks again Julie!
