From Intention to Impact Book Talk with author Malia Lazu

On Friday, March 8th, the DEI Committee hosted a virtual discussion for members with local author Malia Lazu to share her latest book, From Intention to Impact: A Practical Guide to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and the real work that needs to be done to create true and lasting systemic change.
Through a series of question-and-answers, moderated by committee co-chair Michelle Callahan, Malia discussed her background as a community organizer, bank president, and leading DEI consultant and how her latest book came to fruition.  She explained what organizations, leaders, and people of all levels must do to create more inclusive environments that honor and value diversity.  She shared with members her seven-stage guide as well as her 3L model of listening, learning, and taking loving action included in the book that people can use as a practical guide to tackle these issues head on.  From the initial excitement of doing “something,” to the frustration when the inevitable pushback comes, and finally to the determination to do the hard work despite the challenges, Malia stressed that this is where true impact begins.

Thanks to Malia for sharing her time with us today.  If you would like to purchase her book, please visit:
