MBTA Communities Act: Lessons Learned and Best Practices.
On Wednesday, November 29th, CREW Boston’s Housing and Community Development Committee provided a panel update on the MBTA Communities Act as it goes into its second year, with critical deadlines looming for many communities.
This hybrid event, hosted at the offices of Perkins & Will, featured expert panelists Katy Lacy, AICP, Senior Planner at Massachusetts Housing Partnership; Lily Linke, MBTA Communities Engagement Manager at CHAPA; Michael Leon, Esquire, Associate Member at Lexington Planning Board and Land Use and Environmental Law Partner at Nutter, McClennen & Fish, LLP; and Angela Ippolito, Chair, Swampscott Planning Board, moderated by Lynne D. Sweet, CREW Boston member and Principal at LDS Consulting Group, LLC.
We learned the importance of engaging a planner to help navigate the process, how a good understanding of the MBTA Communities Act is necessary to discern the best application to the community context in your town, and how there are many good and exemplary lessons from towns ahead of the process.
Thanks to our panelists and to Perkins & Will for hosting!
