On Thursday, October 12th, CREW Boston held a luncheon featuring the 585 Kendall project in Cambridge, with commentary provided by BioMed Realty’s Colleen O’Connor and Salvatore Zinno. The building represents the culmination of years of complex site assemblage, community engagement efforts, permitting and entitlement activities, design and engineering, and leasing outreach, resulting in a unique and sustainable addition to the Kendall Square neighborhood.
An innovative development where “science meets art”, 585 Kendall will serve as a 600,000 SF headquarters to Takeda, one of the world’s most prominent pharmaceutical companies. Its community spaces and support make this project both a component of a critical life science infrastructure as well as a neighborhood destination and a champion of the arts.
In addition to housing Takeda, it will also serve as a cultural icon and a living room for the neighborhood. Through a partnership with Global Arts Live, a non profit spotlighting artistic excellence from all corners of the globe that has been a Cambridge institution for over 30 years. 585 Kendall will incorporate a 15,000-square-foot all-season flexible space on the ground floor, a 400-seat theater on the upper floors, and ample indoor and outdoor seating for community members, employees, and visitors alike. In total, the project will contribute over one acre of new indoor/outdoor open space to the urban grid.
585 Kendall was honored at the CREW Boston Achievement Awards in April of 2023 for the Networking Award, as there were 12 different CREW members intimately involved in ensuring the success of this project. This award recognizes a transaction, project, or project team that most clearly exemplifies the goals and purposes of CREW Boston and showcases a business-to-business networking success story. CREW members from BioMed Realty, Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company, Redgate, Sanborn, Head, & Associates, and other key organizations worked together and played vital roles in bringing this project to fruition.
