On December 11th, more than 50 CREW Boston members participated in the Holiday Gift and Craft Party to benefit Carolina Hill Shelter. CREW members purchased gifts for 17 families residing at Carolina Hill, who without CREW’s assistance would not have received gifts this holiday season. Additionally, CREW members generously donated gift cards at the November 27th luncheon which were distributed to the Moms and Dads at the shelter. CREW members also crafted hand-made ornaments for the families. New leggings and sweatpants were collected to help the Shelter cloth future residents who often arrive with only the clothes they are wearing. The outpouring of CREW’s generosity was overwhelming and truly appreciated by Carolina Hill. The Holiday Gift and Craft Party, hosted by the Community Involvement Committee, also provided a great networking opportunity to socialize with other CREW members, as well as enjoy pizza and wine.

Pots of Paradise, a popular vendor from our Holiday Shop for a Cause, taught how to arrange your own succulents, all while raising money for the Elizabeth Stone House, which helps homeless and at-risk individuals and families rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence, mental illness, substance abuse and other forms of trauma. Everyone enjoyed a great night of networking and walked away with two of their own small arrangements to take home with them.

On August 4, 2017, a group of CREW Boston members traveled to Marshfield for an afternoon of service at the Carolina Hill Shelter, a transitional shelter aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness for families in need. The event was planned by the Community Involvement Committee, and project coordinator and CIC member Bonny Doorakian worked with the shelter to obtain painting supplies and perennials for planting, with the help of generous donations from East Boston Savings Bank and Lowe’s. With these supplies and an afternoon of hard work, volunteers Despina Hixon, Chrissy Vincenti, Pat Cooper, Anne Sodergren, Jessica Park, and Gayle Simmons, along with Bonny, were able to make a big impact at the shelter, sprucing up the grounds with newly-planted flowers and brightening the living room with a new coat of paint.

Each year CREW Boston comes together to welcome our new members and to celebrate our legacy members, who include our longest-standing members and our past presidents. This year, we were honored to have with us many of the founding members of our organization which gave us a chance to honor our beginnings, where we started, how far we have come and what our future looks like. The over 100 members in attendance had a chance to hear from a couple of them and was inspired by their commitment to the promotion of women in the real estate industry and how it all began.
