Climate Ready Cities – Transforming Real Estate

CREW Boston hosted a panel of climate change experts and thinkers on how they are helping improve the city of Boston’s waterfront. Ellen Watts of Architerra started by reflecting on the most important real estate in the world, the Earth’s atmosphere. She shared how we need to use historical data, ideas from other countries, and how we should be thinking differently moving forward. It’s about not retreating from our cities due to the ever changing climate and increase in storms but to reinvent our cities and to better protect our cities and the environment. Additionally we heard from our panelist; Kathy Abbott from Boston Harbor Now, Kirk Bosma from Woods Hole Group and Sam Sleiman from Massport.

Members and guests joined CREW Boston for a night of Crafting for a Cause!  Pots of Paradise, a popular vendor from our Holiday Shop for a Cause, taught how to arrange your own succulents, all while raising money for the Elizabeth Stone House, which helps homeless and at-risk individuals and families rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence, mental illness, substance abuse and other forms of trauma.  Everyone enjoyed a great night of networking and walked away with two of their own small arrangements to take home with them.

  • HRI Tackles Food Insecurity in Cambridge

HRI Tackles Food Insecurity in Cambridge

As Director of Development at the affordable housing provider Homeowner’s Rehab (HRI), Jane Carbone coordinates all aspects of housing development from the predevelopment phase through construction. HRI owns and operates over 1250 units, housing hundreds of low income families.  Too often, low-income neighborhoods lack access to farmers’ markets or stores selling a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. When such foods are available, they can be priced too high for families that need to stretch their grocery budgets. Oftentimes, they will fill the gap with less nutritious, bulk, packaged foods with a longer shelf life.

  • 2018 Achievement Awards Celebration

    2018 Achievement Awards Celebration

The 20th annual Achievement Awards took place on April 25 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza with over 300 guests gathered to honor 19 members for their outstanding and impressive accomplishments in commercial real estate. In addition to our Achievement Award honorees, we also recognized two very special groups this year, our Mentor/Mentee program, as well as the cohort of members from our inaugural Leadership Academy.  Through these three groups that we recognized – our earnest Mentees; our future Leaders; and our esteemed Achievers – attendees saw how the CREW organization supports its members as they grow both personally and professionally.

  • Conversations and Connections

    Conversations and Connections

What does it take to start your own company? A group of CREW Boston’s Rising Leaders found out when we convened at Blue Moon Capital Partners’ office to hear from Kathy Sweeney and Susan Barlow, Blue Moon’s Co-Founders. Attendees learned about Kathy’s and Susan’s career paths, including an early stint on a cattle ranch, and what led them to form Blue Moon in 2013. The discussion hit on important topics like knowing when to take risks and how to persevere through tough times. Given Blue Moon’s focus on senior housing, we discussed the opportunities in that space and what inspired Kathy and Susan to start a fund focused solely on that asset type.
