Each year CREW Boston comes together to welcome our new members and to celebrate our legacy members, who include our longest-standing members and our past presidents. This year, we were honored to have with us many of the founding members of our organization which gave us a chance to honor our beginnings, where we started, how far we have come and what our future looks like. The over 100 members in attendance had a chance to hear from a couple of them and was inspired by their commitment to the promotion of women in the real estate industry and how it all began.

CREW Boston's President Elect Lisa Serafin and CREW Delegate Sophie Stein attended the 2017 CREW Network Winter Leadership Summit, which took place in Los Angeles on February 9-10. Over 250 CREW Network members from all over the country gathered to exchange their chapter experiences and participate in leadership training as well as to take advantage of many networking opportunities. Attendees also had an opportunity to meet new CREW Network CEO and CREW Network Foundation President Wendy Mann, who spoke at the Friday’s networking lunch. CREW Boston was excited to present a panel comprised of four CREW Boston Legacy members, Kathleen Ahern, Kathleen Joyce Kusiak, Laura Marshall and Joan Parsons, leaders in the real estate community. The panel was moderated by CREW Boston immediate past president, Leslie Cohen and there was time for attendees to ask questions and network. These amazing women participated in last year's Legacy Lunch Series, and we were delighted to have them together for an evening of candid discussion.

In February, the Entrepreneur Exchange was joined by Angela Parziale, CPA, MST, Shareholder with Walter & Shuffain, P.C. Certified Public Accountants & Business Advisors. Angela is an active CREW Boston member, past Board member and Treasurer, AND Achievement Award Winner! Just in time for tax prep season, Angela gave an overview of her role at Walter & Shuffain (WS) and their services, then fielded a wide range of questions from a diverse group of business owners and managers. She also provided a reference packet from WS for our use. We discussed retirement plan options and defined benefit plans, health savings accounts and consortium plan opportunities.

Rosemary Sansone, President of the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District, said her organization in its four years of existence the BID’s strength has been that it is “nimble, flexible,” and, “That’s been our greatest success – listening to people.” Sansone reviewed the success over four years of the BID, which is funded by an assessment on the businesses in the Downtown Crossing district. The budget of the organization is $6.7 million, spent about a third on keeping the neighborhood clean and about a fifth programs and hospitality.

CREW Boston and the Community Involvement Committee hosted a raffle at the January 31st luncheon to support the Elizabeth Stone House. Attendees had an opportunity buy raffle tickets for a chance to win a $300 Visa Gift Card donated by Berkadia Commercial Mortgage. With the help and support of everyone in attendance at the luncheon, CREW Boston raised nearly $1,500 for the Elizabeth Stone House.

In January, the Rising Leaders group was appreciative to be hosted by Kim Sherman Stamler and Related Beal for the first Executive Reception of 2017. Over 25 young women from various positions in the industry, including construction, development, finance and asset management joined for the evening. As president of Related Beal, Kim lead conversation about the company’s history and recent Boston merger, as well as her career path, beginning as an intern and growing with the company. She captivated the group with discussions about employee culture and women in real estate.

CREW Boston members had the opportunity to tour 888 Boylston Street, which is deemed the most sustainable building in Boston. Members enjoyed a video highlighting some of the key features of the building before Dave Stewart and Mark Denman took them on a guided tour of one of the unfinished floors to see the open floorplan and then down to another floor, which had an outside terrace overlooking Boylston Street.

The Mentor Program had a very successful kick off lunch on January 12th at KeyBank Real Estate Capital with over 30 participants from the program in attendance. This year’s Program is comprised of 58 members, including Peer to Peer and Mentee to Mentor pairs. pairs and asking everyone to introduce themselves to the group. After introductions and learning about suggestions for a successful experience, the mentors and mentees broke out into pairs to formalize their match and discuss logistics, as well as, what the mentee are looking to accomplish to begin a productive and rewarding mentorship relationship.

In January, members of the Entrepreneur Exchange met to discuss goals for 2017. By breaking into small groups, stating a goal out loud, and putting it on paper, members got a kick start and plenty of feedback from peers in the room.
