In April CREW Boston members spoke to students at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. The panelists discussed their education, career development, and current position to a small group of business students interested in commercial real estate. Students were also encouraged to apply for the CREW Boston scholarship next year.
In April, members and guests learned how to establish their competitive edge by creating a personal brand from Theresa Whiting, Executive Coach and Training Facilitator. During the seminar attendees were showed the history and importance of branding, introduced to techniques to create credibility statement and provide steps to communicate the message.
A small group of CREW Boston members enjoyed a lively discussion of our respective careers in commercial real estate, which was hosted and led by Kathleen Ahern. Kathy started the lunch by giving an overview of her more than 30 years in banking. She has held many roles within the banking industry and has endured many real estate cycles, all of which has helped her become the well-rounded credit risk officer she is today. The conversation flowed freely among the group and everyone was an active participant in the discussion.
On April 6th CREW Boston’s Public Strategies Committee hosted its annual Women in Government reception. Over 75 CREW members and invited guests gathered at the Union Club for the popular event. Energy ran high in the room as attendees networked before and after listening to the evening’s guest speaker, Attorney General Maura Healey.

Members enjoyed a very upbeat and energetic lunch with Kathleen Joyce Kusiak. Kathleen talked about how she started her career in financial services, went on to do marketing and business development in the Commercial Real Estate industry, and is now a developer of office property and hotels. She attributes her success to these three tips: luck, staying visible and continually reaching out to your personal network. Each luncheon participant had a chance to tell her story and the overall consensus, was that everyone is enjoying their role in Commercial Real Estate.
CREW Boston members and members of the Community Involvement Committee mingled at a private wine tasting at The Wine Bottega in the North End. The event was to benefit CREW Boston's designated charity organization, Elizabeth Stone House. Surrounded by true, natural wines from Italy and France, the owner, Kerri Platt, went over 5 wines from Italy and described the vineyards, grapes and process. We also tasted select meats and cheeses from a local North End market.
The CREW Boston Public Strategies Committee (PSC) held an exciting & lively breakfast discussion with the two of the four women members of the Boston City Council, City Council President Michelle Wu and Councilor Anissa Essaibi-George. These key women are shaping the future of the City. They shared their visions and initiatives as well as their perspectives on growth and development, and why they are drawn to public service as elected officials. This dynamic discussion, one of the best attended PSC Breakfasts this year, was enjoyed by all.
Architerra principal and co-founder Ellen Watts and architect Caitlin Gilman presented Architerra’s winning vision for the Boston Living with Water Competition to the CREW Boston Sustainability Networking Group. The competition sought resilient design solutions to address the challenges of climate change and rising sea level in Boston.
Transportation is not what it is but what it does, Massachusetts Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack told CREW’s March 2016 luncheon attendees on March 10. It shapes and supports the economies of communities and the region, and it connects people to opportunities.
